A Dildo and a Dream

The Beginning
"I started New York Toy Collective because the toy I wanted didn't exist."

In 2012, I had a fantasy I wanted to bring to life, but there wasn’t a single product out there made for bodies like mine. I searched everywhere. I emailed companies. Most of the time I just got silence.

So I made it myself.

The First Creation
My name is Chelsea, and that first thing I made became Shilo — the first silicone pack-and-play offered in multiple skin tones. It was only supposed to be for me. But once I made it, it felt like something other people needed too.

We believe pleasure isn’t a luxury. It’s a basic need — right up there with food, water, shelter, and movement. What started as one personal project grew into a full line of toys designed specifically for lesbian, queer, trans, and non-gender-conforming bodies.

Changing the Industry
Shilo — a dildo and a dream — went on to inspire a lot of other queer people to start making things too. It helped shift what the adult industry could actually look like for people like us.

Fourteen years later (and a few XBIZ awards later), we’re still handmaking toys that help people feel good in their bodies, explore what they want, and stop settling for products that were never made for them.

Recognition & Community
Our work has been featured in The New York Times, TIME, Huffington Post, Jezebel, Cosmopolitan, and more. Ruby Rose even featured Shilo in their “Break Free” music video.

We also make custom 3D anatomy replicas because we’re here to celebrate real bodies and real pleasure — not some version of them that doesn’t exist.

Pleasure isn’t extra. It’s essential.
